Have you been frustrated with the amount of money you are spending, just so that you can go to work? Unfortunately, many people find themselves in a similar situation. Between daycare, gasoline, lunches, and clothing, the costs can add up quickly. This is why many people are choosing to work at home. However, is saving money by working from home really possible?
While everyone would like to think that saving money by working from home is possible, the truth is, it all depends upon the type of work you are doing and whether or not you can handle the responsibility of working for yourself. If you are unable to keep yourself seated and on task, the amount of money you make is going to be reduced. To get paid, the jobs must be completed.
For example, if you decide to take a job that will allow you to work out of your home and it is doing nothing more than data entry for a company that pays by the piece. Each portion of work you do will pay you $50 and it should generally take you approximately 4 hours to get one portion done. This means you should be making $12.50 an hour. You find that trying to get the work done with your children running around is difficult and it takes you 5 hours to do it. This means you are now down to $10 an hour.
However, if you look at the fact you are saving $4 an hour on daycare and saving $8 per day on commuting expenses and another $5 on lunch or coffee expenses, you are now making just about $16 per hour. But, another thing to think about is taxes. They are not taking taxes out of your pay, so you must set aside at least $2 or more per hour for you taxes. This knocks it back down to $14 an hour or less.
The truth is, you can save money by working from home, but only if you can stay on task and are committed to the work. Not everyone has the self-discipline required to work by themselves at home. However, if you do, you can be sure that you can actually make more money than you would by working outside the home.
