Moms Working at Home: Tips on How to Manage It All

One of the biggest issues for moms working at home is time management. You want to create a successful business, but you do not want your family or home responsibilities to suffer, especially since your children are probably the main reason that you decided to work out of the home. The following are a few tips on how to manage it all that will hopefully help you to make things a little easier for you:

Evaluate your current work style. Most moms working at home do not realize just how much time is wasted until they actually take the time to assess an average day of work.

Most people who work out of the home waste several hours a day on the Internet. Before you go online, make a list of what your mission is and stick to it. Don’t do anything online that you haven’t planned.

If you are currently working on a desktop computer, you are limiting where you can work. Invest in a laptop and you could even get a little work done while your kids watch a movie in the living room.

Keep your to-do list handy and group activities together. For example, if you have to email several people, do the emails at the same time.

You can also group chores and errands together. For example, if you have to send out a business mailing, combine this errand with household errands, such as picking up groceries or picking up your child from school.

By preparing a week’s worth of meals at a time, you could save a couple of hours each week. Do all your cooking for the week on one day and just stick the meals in the freezer. You don’t feel guilty about not having enough time to prepare a hot meal for your family, as all you have to do is thaw it out and heat it up.

Rethink your plan of action. Moms working at home tend to overdo everything. Don’t feel bad that you don’t have the time to be the room-mother at your child’s school. Keep in mind that everyone has limits and you can not spread yourself too thin.
